Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring

Unlimited reactor configuration from Parr

January 2016 Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring

Parr Instrument Company has been designing and building pressure apparatus for over a century. Customers today have more choices of reactors than ever before with many additional options to choose from – including a range of glass reactors.

Most reactors from Parr can be converted from one size to another. The sizes of the steel laboratory pressure vessels offered vary from 25 ml to 18,75 l and there are three ranges of maximum operating pressures: up to 130 bar, 200 bar and 350 bar. The 25 to 600 ml stainless steel reactors are rated to 200 bar. The glass reactors are available from 160 ml – 1,5 l and rated to a maximum temperature of 150°C and pressures up to 10 bar.

Operating temperatures have now been extended to 500°C as alternative materials can be used in the construction. While the majority of organic reactions can be handled in stainless steel, there are other options available. Ten other corrosion resistant alloys can be used to provide vessels suitable for a wide range of corrosive acids, bases, salts and gases. Special alloy construction can be provided for both the internal parts of the vessel as well as the external valves and fittings. Parr has now added the option of a self-sealing O-ring closure for general-purpose vessels. These quick closing designs are practically limited to 225°C, although this can be raised to 300°C with special O-ring materials.

Three mounting styles; either benchtop, cart or floor stand, or with fixed head or removable vessel styles are available. To adapt the stirred reactor there are wide ranges of customised options such as special openings in the head or cylinder, windows, special valves, custom heaters or jackets, explosion proof wiring and volume modifications, as well as various accessories like glass and PTFE liners, condensers, catalyst holders and alternate holders. The glass pressure reactors can easily be converted to a high pressure reactor by changing the pressure gauge and obtaining an optional extra steel vessel and clamp device. Controllers for process with software are also available for either single or multiple reactors.

Multiple reactor systems, biomass reactors, supercritical fluids, continuous flow tubular, fluidised bed reactors, biofuels and alternative fuel systems and gas to oil systems with process controllers are also available.
