To supply power to devices such as IP cameras and phones, or WLAN access points, switches that support Power over Ethernet (PoE) such as Hirschmann’s new PoE injector, the Spider Giga 2TX PoE EEC, offers a practical and cost-effective alternative.
The 2TX allows the retrofitting of Ethernet networks with Power over Ethernet functionality without having to replace a single standard switch, thus enabling the powering of a wide variety of devices directly with a data cable. This not only provides a great deal of flexibility, it also reduces costs because there’s no need to install separate power supplies, extra sockets or power lines – just connect the data port of the PoE injector to a switch and then connect the relevant terminal device to the PoE port. Since the PoE injector can supply up to 30 W, devices requiring higher power consumption are also possible.
The Spider Giga 2TX PoE EEC is equipped with two RJ45 ports for 10/100/1000 BASE-T(X), one of which also supports PoE+ (max. 30 W in accordance with IEEE802.3at). The extremely compact metal housing can be mounted either on a DIN rail or on the wall. The PoE injector meets the requirements of ingress protection class IP30 and also includes features such as plug-and-play activation, an operating temperature range from -40 to 70°C and a redundant power supply (24/48 VDC). LEDs to display the status of the power supply and PoE port.
It is ideally suited for use in harsh environments, so numerous industries can benefit from this small form factor PoE injector: mechanical and plant engineering, robotics and material handling, renewable energy, transportation and security technology are among these.
Benefits at a glance:
* Cost-effective powering of devices via the data line without replacing any installed standard switches.
* Maximum performance thanks to gigabit speed and PoE+.
* Can be used in demanding industrial environments, thanks to its robust metal housing and extended operating temperature range.
* IP30 protection class.
* Resistant to impacts, vibration and electromagnetic fields (EMC).
* Fast activation by plug-and-play.
* Redundant power supply (24/48 V DC).
* LED displays of the power supply and PoE port status.
* Perfectly matched to all switches and power packs from Hirschmann.
The new Hirschmann PoE Injector is available from IAC.
Introduction to Part 2 loop signatures and process transfer functions
Fieldbus & Industrial Networking
The previous series of loop signature articles dealt with the basics of control loop optimisation, and concentrated on troubleshooting and ‘SWAG’ tuning of simple processes. In this new series, consideration will be given to dealing practically with more difficult issues like interactive processes, and with processes with much more complex dynamics.
