Contact-free switchgear testing
September 2013
Electrical Power & Protection
The electronic HSA 205 distance voltage detector from DEHN provides contactless verification of the safe isolation distance on switchgear installations and high voltage overhead lines. The device is self-testing, with the test being performed automatically after switching on the detector. It has a wide nominal voltage range from 1 – 420 kV/50 Hz with minimum safety distances from 90 mm to 2,9 m according to the nominal voltage used.
The voltage detector’s operating head is fitted with a yellow switching ring which is used to set the required nominal voltage range, either 1 – 30 kV, 30 – 220 kV or 110 – 420 kV. The insulating rod is a 43 mm diameter glass fibre reinforced polyester tube with integrated measuring head, as well as an operating and indicating unit with a green ring for contact indication. Readiness of operation and ‘no voltage present’ conditions are indicated by a green flashing light and an acoustic signal at 2 second intervals, while ‘voltage present’ is indicated by a red flashing light and acoustic signal with increased frequency.
The HSA 205 safety device is suitable for use in both dry and wet weather conditions. Low battery conditions are indicated by a permanent red light and by an additional constant acoustic signal. The type HSA 205 has a –25 to 55°C operating temperature range and is supplied with a block battery and storage bag.
