Keeping a close eye on product quality and purity

The Memosens Wave CKI50 process spectrometer ensures safe and robust inline colour monitoring of liquids.

Colour measurements are essential in various processes to prevent product losses and ensure safe production and batching. These measurements are particularly important in industries such as food and beverage, chemicals, and life sciences. For quality assurance, samples are often collected from the manufacturing process and sent to a laboratory for analysis before the batches can be approved.

Real-time continuous monitoring is possible when measurements are taken directly within the process. This capability is provided by the Memosens Wave CKI50 process spectrometer from Endress+Hauser, a compact, durable, and process-friendly device. With the Memosens Wave CKI50, quality, batching, and phase checks can now be conducted using a single instrument for the entire visible colour spectrum, ranging from 380 to 830 nm. The colour measurement is reported as an L*a*b* value, which is derived from the CIE-L*a*b* colour space – a universal and versatile colour scale defined by DIN standards.

The colour measurements provided by the spectrometer ensure exceptional repeatability and long-term reliability. These measurements are as precise as those conducted in a laboratory, but they occur directly within the process. This means that any incorrect colour values or irregularities can be immediately displayed in the process control system. As soon as a defined limit is reached, the process can be fine-tuned right away. The innovative design of the spectrometer features the reliable digital Memosens technology, along with a Liquiline transmitter. This combination allows for easy and quick integration of the Memosens Wave CKI50 into the process – simply connect it, and the measurement is ready to use. The operation is user-friendly, requiring no calibration and no specialised knowledge or expertise in data modelling or process development from personnel.

In combination with the Liquiline transmitter, you also have all common communication protocols available and can enjoy the benefits of Endress+Hauser’s Liquiline platform. For example, you can quickly connect further Memosens sensors as required because the transmitter detects the sensors automatically. In addition, ATEX and hygiene approvals make the Memosens Wave CKI50 fit for operation in hygienic and potentially explosive environments.

The maximum protection class of IP69, along with resistance to vibrations and high temperatures, allows for use in harsh environments. Consumers expect products to maintain a consistent colour, as colour serves as a recognisable indicator of quality. Any colour variation is often seen as a decline in product quality. The Memosens Wave CK150 process spectrometer ensures colour consistency. Additionally, the Memosens Wave CKI50 and the Liquiline CM44P transmitter facilitate robust and efficient inline colour measurements. Other relevant process parameters can be easily combined at any time.
