Another almost record attendance was the scene for the July technology evening at the Durban Country Club, when many practitioners and students braved the cooler weather to hear Jurie Weidemann’s presentation on SIL: basic principles and fundaments.
Hennie Prinsloo (left) thanks Jurie Weidemann for his presentation.
Jurie is the external sales engineer for the process automation portfolio at Pepperl+Fuchs with professional experience in various industry sectors. He is passionate about automation and youth development in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and is an active SAIMC member who has contributed enthusiastically at branch and council levels. He also proved to be an entertaining and informative speaker as he covered (with many acronyms):
• Common misconceptions about SIL.
• Risk and accidents.
• Studies about accidents.
• Process and safety equipment.
• Random and systemic failures.
• Standards.
• Phases of the safety lifecycle.
The audience was attentive and the presentation was interactive, which always makes for an interesting and entertaining evening, ending off with a delicious chicken curry.
The branch thanks Pepperl+Fuchs for the kind sponsorship of the evening.
