SAIMC: From the President’s desk

August 2019 SAIMC

August marks the month where we have the opportunity to celebrate women. As a female leader it is humbling to know that I have opportunities today that I would not have had years ago. It has required everyone to stand against gender-based inequality, but also reciprocation from society to change the way we think and start doing things differently.

On a personal note I would like to say the following: “Thank you to every single person who has given me an opportunity and provided support over the years. The ripple effect might not be visible to you in its entirety, but it is part of a legacy of change and improvement benefitting society to an immeasurable effect.”

Ladies high tea in celebration of woman’s month

I am very proud to tell you that this year is the first time that the SAIMC will host two networking events, specifically aimed at the females in our industry. The Secunda branch is hosting its fourth annual high tea, and the Johannesburg branch is launching its first.

If you are a female working within our industry, and want to attend, please get in touch with us. Come and network with your peers and let’s have some fun together. It is rare to have opportunities like this, so come with an expectation to enjoy the day and meet your industry peers.

For each individual, I urge you to attend not only to network and find collaboration opportunities, but also to find a potential mentor at the event. Use this opportunity to elevate yourself and your career to the next level.

I want to thank the committees and the sponsors. Without every single person who contributes towards the SAIMC and initiatives like these we cannot change the world around us.

My wish for everyone is to be the star that they were born to be, and to empower those around them. That is how you create an indestructible winning force. I would like to leave you with one of my favourite quotes, which I believe is relevant to all: “And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” – Marianne Williamson.
