As we enter the final days of 2018, I would like to take a moment to reflect and thank those who contributed to an amazing year of achievement for the SAIMC. This year was about action, and it is my honour and pleasure to thank you all today.
During 2018 we saw tremendous growth in the number of national patrons and branch members, showing industry is standing with us in our strategic goals. Thank you Pregs Naidoo and team for all your hard work to grow the SAIMC.
Every month the branch committees across South Africa and Zambia ensure that our members are served through their various activities. These include monthly technology evenings, publishing of papers, writing articles, attending roadshows and talking to the youth about automation, while also assisting our current working professionals with certified training opportunities. We cannot be great without the continuous commitment from our branch committees. Thank you to the chairmen and their teams who tirelessly ensure that we all have continuous development and networking opportunities.
Our education team led by Johan Maartens and the Industry 4.0 team lead by Marc Van Pelt have produced outstanding results. The education initiative is breaking new ground in South Africa with the DTI and NTIP team to ensure that we change the way education works for automation in the future. In the end, this will ensure that we will provide internationally accredited training opportunities for all which are modular and of a quality to ensure employee skills are of the highest possible standard.
To all our patron members, both nationally and at branch level, as well as our media partners – thank you for working with us.
Each person who participated in activities related to the SAIMC this year, donating your time and energy either to be part of the organisation of events, or just by participating – thank you! You are amazing.
Together we are building a better future for ourselves and our children. Enjoy the festive season. May you have a relaxed and enjoyable time doing whatever your heart desires, whether it be spending time at home with your family, or going off on a holiday.

“Never have so many owed so much to so few.” This phrase is a famous quote by Winston Churchill, referring to the efforts of the Royal Air Force pilots who fought in the Battle of Britain during World War II. It highlights the immense gratitude owed to the relatively small number of pilots who played a crucial role in defending the United Kingdom from the German Luftwaffe.
