SAIMC: Secunda Branch

April 2002 SAIMC

March has always been a great month for the Secunda branch and this year was no different. We kicked off our monthly meetings with the first one this the year being an outstanding occasion at the now familiar venue at the Wika office in Trighaardt. NIC sponsored the evening where they educated our members and guests with an outstanding presentation on the topic: 'The quality and cost of compressed air'. The presenter was a Dutch specialist brought in from Germany. We thank them for this, as we have all gained more knowledge in one night, from this well-prepared presentation, than others would acquire only after years of failure and faultfinding.

The highlight of the month came the week after. On 13 March 2002 the greatest suspense, after a full year of hard work, was not to be ended with a prompt 'yes' or 'no'. Suffering was drawn out as members of the Council had to add their input to the rivalry that went on between the Johannesburg Branch and us. We knew that the scores were close and the excitement could not be contained. And then they had to recount again before announcing. Only in the evening (at the function where Instrotech celebrated its 21st birthday) the announcement was finally made.

We have done it. THE SECUNDA BRANCH IS THE BRANCH OF THE YEAR!

The chairman received the banner and certificate from the outgoing president. Piet did not know how to react. He wanted to jump and scream but instead kept his cool and poise. Thanks to everybody for their faith and trust in the Secunda Branch, we promise to live up to expectation.

Thanks to the Johannesburg Branch for their support over the years - we could see that you enjoyed our win just as much as we did. A parent is always proud if their child performs well. This year the competition is going to be a bird of another colour. The Cape Town Branch, the Durban Branch, the Welkom Branch and the Witbank sub Branch have all indicated that they mean business - and the signs are there that they mean it.

To the new President, we say congratulations and you have our support, you have got a task at hand.

Thanks again to everyone that was involved in the Secunda Branch during 2001 without you we could not have done it.

Piet van Rensburg, Chairman, Secunda Branch
