SAIMC Witbank sub-branch
March 2002
SAIMC
Our branch was established on 16 October 2001 and we are proud to report that we have enrolled 20 new members to date. The committee is striving to reach full branch status by year-end.
Members of the Witbank SAIMC committee are:
Pieter Smit (chairman), Fanie Ferreira (vice chairman), Marius Fourie (treasurer), Pieter de Beer (secretary), Marrek Celeky (member), Clive Kerry (member).
The topic of our first sponsor evening held in October 2001 was tube leak detection. Instrotech sponsored the evening and Dave Howcroft was the speaker at the event. We would like to make use of the opportunity to thank him for the encouraging message he had for the Witbank sub-branch.
This year we kicked off with our first sponsor evening held on 13 February. The topic under discussion was non-contact level measurement. We would like to thank Endress + Hauser for the excellent presentation; the audience really enjoyed the discussion.
We would like to invite all interested persons in our area to attend our functions and make use of the opportunity to complete those membership application forms. Our meetings are very informal and we would like to use these events as a medium for all the people in the instrumentation and control fraternity to network and interact. We aim to present topics that will be of interest to all our local industries, some of which are selecting the right enclosures, anti-surge control on compressors and cable fault location.
Other events that we are planning for the rest of the year include a visit to the Electrex Exhibition, golf days and excursions to some of the very interesting industries in and around Witbank/Middelburg area. Watch the local media for information!
Note: We notice a very healthy rivalry between our mother branch (Secunda) and Johannesburg branch. We would like to advise them not to get sidetracked, as they might just be pleasantly surprised by the newest branch of the SAIMC!
