SAIMC: Rustenburg branch

July 2017 SAIMC

On the evening of 24 May, an inaugural meeting was held at the offices of Lasrust Enterprises to launch the SAIMC Rustenburg branch.

Jurie Weideman opened the meeting with a brief overview and introduction to SAIMC and its objectives, which mainly relate to supporting the control and instrumentation profession. We were fortunate to have present at the event some very high-profile stakeholders and role players from local industry.

Derek Wetzlar, MD of Lasrust, opening the festivities and the meeting.

The technology presentation was by Phoenix Contact control systems business unit manager, Patrick Rowland. The subject of his talk was ‘Industrial Wireless Communications’ and it covered topics such as frequency hopping and spectrum usage. The history of industrial communications was also covered, along with applications and considerations. Overall the presentation was very well received and attendees felt that it makes a lot more sense of what to consider when facing applications that require wireless communications of an industrial nature.

As is the norm at SAIMC meetings, we enjoyed food and refreshments and caught up on some networking. SAIMC Rustenburg thanks everyone who made the evening possible and looks forward to growing the branch. A dedicated committee to run the branch locally is being assembled, please feel free to volunteer and also to share the news with other prospective members and interested parties.
