The March Technology Evening was kindly sponsored by Proconics and Paul Ganter presented an interesting and relevant paper entitled: “Your braai and you: Understanding Combustion”. By comparing combustion in a plant to a topic close to many South African hearts – the beloved braaivleis – Paul’s presentation was entertaining and humorous and resonated fully with the enthused audience. Of course it wasn’t all fun and games as the topic is a critical one, which spanned the basics of combustion to combustion systems in industry. He also tackled legislation applicable to combustion and gave an overview of SANS329 and the pertinent and insightful questions afterwards showed just how interested the audience was.
Vice chairman Busani Sibindi (right) thanks Paul Ganter for the presentation and sponsorship.
Paul was certainly qualified to speak on this subject: he trained as an instrument artisan with Sasol in Secunda, then spent 13 years working for Sasol in various locations around South Africa and in Qatar supporting projects. During this time he completed his degree in Computer Science.

For the past three he has been working at Proconics as an instrument engineer involved in combustion and has worked on combustion projects for major clients in the steel industry, as well as the petrochemical industry in the Vaal Triangle area. He recently went to the United States to learn more about combustion and combustion equipment.
