The branch hosted its last Technology Evening for 2016 on 3 November, when Christo Basson from Aveng ACS did a presentation on the AMS Trex Communicator.
HART (highway addressable remote transducer) is a digital industrial automation protocol. Its most notable advantage is that it can communicate over legacy 4-20 mA analog instrumentation current loops.
Due to the huge installed base of 4-20 mA systems throughout the world, HART is one of the most popular industrial protocols today, with users who wish to use legacy 4-20 mA signals, but also want to implement a smart protocol.
Originally developed by Rosemount in the mid 1980s for its smart field instruments, the protocol soon evolved into HART and in 1986 it was made an open protocol. Since then, the capabilities have been enhanced by successive revisions to the specification. The AMS Trex device is the next generation in industrial handheld communicators and has improved capabilities and application features.
After the presentation all members and visitors enjoyed refreshments while networking.
Special thanks to Honeywell for sponsoring the venue, food and beverages for all our Technology Events during 2016.
All presentations earn CPD points for ECSA registered persons and any enquiries can be directed to the branch chairman, Johan Maritz, at [email protected], 082 856 3865.
