On Sunday 18 November, SAIMC CT held their annual golf day. The event was extremely well supported and the SAIMC CT's thanks to everybody involved, especially the sponsors who made the day so much more enjoyable. The PLC Direct floating trophy was won by N&Z this year in conditions that were somewhat challenging. The event was held at Milnerton golf course, which is a 'links' course and is exposed and open to the elements on the best of days. This Sunday was no exception and the wind blew with no mercy making the back 9 all the way back to the clubhouse the most challenging the event has ever been. Despite some of the most fantastic views in the world, there were players and teams pleading that we consider a different venue for next year! We hope to make an announcement about this real soon. Keep your eyes open for e-mail and news in SAI&C.
On Monday 10 Dec 2001, SAIMC CT held a branch meeting with 'Power Quality Measurement' as the topic under discussion. Willie van Wyk of CT Labs gave an insight to the reasons for power quality measurement as well as the need and purpose of standards. The importance and relevance of standards applied to the supply and products using power were highlighted. Willie explained how South African companies were leading the way when it came to power quality measurement and interpretation of the raw data into useful information. The meeting was very poorly attended and many have missed what was an insightful, educational and simple opportunity to learn more about a field of important measurement.
Coming up on Tuesday 22 Jan 2002, we have re-scheduled our visit to the SA Astronomical Society, Cape Town Observatory. There is a very limited number of spaces available for this and bookings will only be taken by e-mail ( [email protected]). You will be notified by return mail if your booking has been accepted or not. There should be a quarter moon on this night and we should be able to take a look through the last remaining optical telescope in the Cape Town Observatory. We will also take a tour of the electronic workshops and learn about the importance of watching the stars.
