This August Technology Evening was held at Festo’s premises, picking up from the presentation it made a year ago. At that meeting, we focused on the advantages, particularly precision, of using electric positioning over doing this pneumatically.

At this meeting, Skye Prato took us through the motor types used on positioning applications, most notably stepper and synchronous (servo) motors. He pointed out in a very simple and logical way, the place occupied by each, showing price and precision advantages.
The SAIMC having changed its name some years ago to include ‘Automation’, this was an ideal opportunity to see how the other half lives, if you’ve been in process automation all of your life. This thoroughly entertaining meeting concluded with demonstrations of 2 and 3-axis control.
