The November Technology Evening was hosted by Pulse Control Systems and presented by Greg Smook, product manager for Siemens level measurement products, on the topic ‘Selection and installation of level transmitters’. The vast majority of level transmitters installed today operate on the principle of either ultrasonic or radar technology and Greg presented the topic based on these two technologies.
He gave a comparison of the two technologies based on their strengths and weaknesses and explained the effects parameters such as temperature, foam, noise, pressure, vacuum, dust, SG and the measured material will have on each technology. He also explained the advantages and disadvantages of ultrasonic versus radar technology. This was followed by some good practice guidelines to be followed when choosing a level transmitter, how one should decide which technology to use and the right location to install it. Many problems result from the improper installation and location of the transmitter.
The Siemens and Pulse Control Systems teams were present and the branch would like to thank Nimelen Pillay and Pulse Control Systems for sponsoring and arranging the Technology Evening, and Greg Smook for a good presentation.
