The branch’s last technology evening was held on 4 October. The presentation was on wireless standards: ISA100 and wireless HART technology were discussed by Rudi Erasmus from Emerson Process Management. If anyone has ever wondered where instrumentation technology is taking us then this is it. It was a lively presentation where participation from the audience was encouraged by Rudi in his own special way. Those who actively contributed to the discussion were well rewarded. Wireless technology continues to grow from strength to strength, in some areas in leaps and bounces, but it is clear that it is here to stay. Looking at the advantages that it brings to the industry, it would be very short sighted for decision makers to ignore wireless technology in future projects.
Vice chairman Eben Grobbelaar thanks Rudi for the excellent presentation and hands over the certificate of appreciation.
Eben Grobbelaar concluded the presentation by thanking Rudi and Emerson Process Management for the support. Demonstrations were done afterwards for those who wanted to see the technology and its capabilities in action.
