At the last Durban branch Technology Evening, Endress+Hauser’s product manager for liquid analysis, Jan Swart, remarked during his presentation that liquid analysis makes great demands not only on the sensor element, but also on the transmission of the measured value from the sensor to the transmitter. When measuring pH, low current and very high sensor internal resistances require a high-impedance connection to the transmitter. Any moisture in this connection lowers the impedance and can therefore change the measured value; it may even result in measurement failure.
Durban branch committee member Kevin McElroy (r) thanks Jan Swart for his interesting presentation on Memosens.
The Memosens (digital technology for analytical sensors) overcomes all this and has revolutionised the safety of data transfer by digitising the measured value in the sensor and then transferring it to the transmitter without the need for a high impedance moisture-sensitive connection. Jan took us through the Memosens technology and the benefits of using this open industry standard as well as the limitations of analog systems. His presentation was very well received and the Durban branch thanks him for this most interesting presentation.
