The Durban technology evening in May will be hosted by Phoenix Contact and will cover surge and lightning protection. Tony Rayner, who has been involved in the manufacture and sales of lightning/surge protection products for the past 18 years, will be sharing some of his knowledge with us.

His presentation will cover aspects such as:

* Lightning and thunder storms.

* Personal protection.

* Lightning and switching transients.

* The basics of surge and lightning protection.

* Earthing and bonding.

* Product classification.

* Wiring of protection devices.

* Protection for power supply systems.

* Protection for MCR systems.

* Protection for mobile phone systems.
