At the last Durban branch technology evening ProLoCon’s Andrew Ashton gave an interesting and interactive presentation on internal traceability and formulation management. The presentation covered aspects such as:

* Receiving and marking of materials.

* Managing the traceability of master recipes.

* Managing the traceability of materials consumed in control recipes.

* Facilitating targeted recall.

Since 1991 Ashton has headed up ProLoCon, a company that develops formulation management systems for the food, pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing industries. He is also a contributing editor for SA Instrumentation and Control.

Forthcoming attractions:

Peter Underhill who is engineering manager at Alpret Control Specialists will be presenting at the Durban SAIMC April Technology evening. Peter has over 33 years’ experience in the process industry and in particular with valves and his presentation will cover:

1) Types of valves on the market in the Control Valve sector looking at the advantages, and disadvantages of each type.

2) Dealing with severe service in our process plant.

3) ‘Smart’ positioners and diagnostics.
