The Cape Town branch hosted a very well attended technology evening together with Stephen David of Control Valve Technology (CVT) on 29 July. (The technology evening for June was postponed due to the World Cup.) CVT is a Western Cape provider of control valves, regulators, instrumentation and performance services to the process control industry. Stephen has a long history with the organisation and showed the depth of his experience during his presentation.
The presentation included insights into the selection of various types of control valves and actuators. Causes of control valve cavitation and techniques to avoid this were a highlight of the talk. The presentation contained actual photographs of cavitation and the effects on the valve seat and the downstream piping. A video explaining how cavitation occurs was streamed directly from the Emerson website.
The presentation ended with lucky draws for a Control Valve Handbook and bottles of wine, courtesy of CVT. The handbook was in great demand with winners of the wine eager to exchange them for the book! Stephen David can be contacted directly if there is further interest in the Control Valve Handbook. The SAIMC would like to thank Stephen and CVT for making this evening a successful one.
The Cape Town branch hosts their technology evenings on the last Thursday of every month and members are urged to attend.
Finally: Please update your membership details by contacting the SAIMC Secretariat directly so that we can send you more content.
