The SAIMC is once again expanding its international influence. During May, I had the pleasure of travelling to Windhoek together with Vivian MacFadyen to establish a branch there.
Johan van Jaarsveldt
We need to thank Debbie Scott, chairperson of the Johannesburg branch for facilitating this venture. On that day she had hired facilities at the Wanderers Club in Windhoek for her ‘Control Roadshow’, and she provided a free exhibition stand for the day and a hall in the late afternoon for a ‘Technology Update Meeting’. This was well attended with some 19 attendees who enjoyed a presentation by Paulo de Sousa Gomes.
At this meeting a lively discussion was held with the following persons offering to assist with setting up the branch in Windhoek.
Bernd Izko; Eckhard Straepmus; Alfred Meyer and Herman Slippers.
All participants showed excitement regarding this initiative, and we can expect that in the very near future the Windhoek branch will be vying for the Branch of the Year Award, and will surprise the long established branches just as Zambia did.
Now we need your assistance in nurturing this new branch. If you are in a position to sponsor a technical presentation in Windhoek, please contact our general secretary at [email protected]
These are exciting times, and I would like to let you in on a little secret, Rustenburg is the next branch to be re-established – keep it to yourself.
I once again would make use of this opportunity to thank the international council members, and all others who have assisted to make this possible. By expanding in this way we pave the way for the SAIMC to continue for the next generation of practitioners in our interesting and challenging industry.
