The Durban branch of the SAIMC held its monthly technology meeting as usual on the first Wednesday. This month we welcomed Johan Maartens, seen here being thanked by branch chairman, Vinesh Maharaj. As could be seen by the turnout and interaction, Johan gave a much needed and appreciated update on the subject of ECSA and CPD points
Forthcoming attractions:
Owen Taverna-Smith from Exida will be presenting at the July SAIMC Durban branch technology evening. The topic will be Cyber Security geared at the process industries:
Taverna-Smith says that the way Cyber Security is evolving with respect to industrial facilities is being driven by threats to key strategic installations ie electricity supply, water supply, fuel refiners and transporters, (ie pipelines).
Their expertise is in assisting operating companies to ensure that they are employing the right policies and technology according to global best practices (ISA99 and others). So the presentation will be focused on an overview of the exposure of cyber security threats, the possible consequences, (giving examples of real instances) and what measures are available to address the risks.
