The main objectives of 2010 have been determined. These will be to provide suitable value for all CT registered members, as well as stakeholders in the control and instrumentation fraternity, in the form of technical recognition and brand association. It promises to be an eventful year with various guest speakers. The technology presentation calendar has been fully booked and will soon be distributed for inclusion in member’s calendars. The branch will also be hosting a variety of events to boost the awareness of the SAIMC within the Western Cape area.

April Technology Evening

To mark World Safety Day on 28 April, guest speaker David Davie of Coast to Coast Cape discussed the importance of ‘Electrical measurement safety and new safety standards’ at the branch’s Technology Evening. The session outlined the importance of selecting correct measurement products and techniques. Emphasis was placed on the injuries, downtime and equipment losses that can occur through failure to select the correct measuring instrument. Correct selection of equipment and processes were also discussed.

Forthcoming attractions

The next Technology Evening will be on 24 June with a presentation by Tyco.

More details on the event will be sent to members in due course. Reminders are distributed via e-mail as well as SMS.

To all members and organisations

We would like to take this opportunity to encourage all our members to update their contact details. All changes can be sent to [email protected] or directly to the SAIMC at [email protected]. Please remember that event notifications are sent to e-mail addresses and phone numbers captured during the registration process.

All registered Cape Town branch members as well as organisations interested in the control, instrumentation and automation sectors are encouraged to attend our Technology Evenings with the aim of sharing knowledge and social networking with like minded professionals. The evenings are particularly aimed at students and aspiring professionals to further their understanding of aspects within the C&I field.

The branch now has an official online presence on social networking site, LinkedIn. The group is mainly used for discussions, updates, contacts, networking, news and information. All members and other interested parties are requested to participate in this effort by registering on www.linkedin.com and joining the SAIMC CT group.

In closure, we would like to congratulate one of our previous committee members Noxolo Kunene on the birth of her baby. Congratulations Noxie!

The SAIMC CT branch is committed to providing value to all members, organisations and students and hereby request contributions to this cause. Please address all correspondence to Selvan Murugan on +27 (0)83 297 7620 or [email protected]
