Firstly, I would like to wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year – may 2010 be your best year yet.
From an SAIMC perspective the New Year brings with it a new set of challenges. So, if you have ever wanted to become part of the SAIMC or to serve on one of the many branch committees now is the time to get involved. Johannesburg, Secunda, Durban, Richards Bay, Vaal Triangle, Cape Town and the five Zambian branches will be holding their respective AGMs in the month of February. All you need to do is inform the branch chairmen that you are interested in joining and then attend the AGM where your nomination will be read out and put to the floor for approval. In accordance with our constitution a branch chairman may only serve for two consecutive terms ie, a period of two years. Thereafter he remains eligible to serve in the capacity of secretary, treasurer or member.

The National Council AGM is set for early in March where the 2010 Council will be elected. This is where the rubber hits the road as we strive to remain ‘The Institute of Choice’. In order to do this we need to keep the momentum gained in 2009 and continue rolling out our innovation committees growth plan to make the Institute truly southern African, and including all our African states by introducing branches in Namibia, Angola, Mozambique and Tanzania.
Our drive is to promote automation as a profession and encourage school leavers to enter this amazing industry of ours. To this end our association with the IIG has proved to be extremely successful in aligning our education efforts. In addition, the ECSA accredited technology evening presentations and training course accreditations for CPD points have proved to be of great value to our institute and its members. We have also had a request for CPD point allocation for an overseas training excursion.
In closure this month I would like to thank all our 2009 branch chairmen and their committee members for all the hard work and effort that they have put in to making our organisation as successful as it is today.
