Secunda branch

July 2009 SAIMC

May 2009 has once again been a very busy month for the Secunda branch. It started with the technology evening hosted by VEGA Instruments. Clint Viviers gave a very interesting presentation on nuclear measurement techniques and its applications. The presentation was followed by some tasty boerewors rolls prepared by our own catering staff and some networking which lasted until 21:00.

After the technology evening all our energy was spent in finalising the arrangements for our annual golf day. Although golf has nothing to do with automation and instrumentation, we organise these days for a few reasons. Firstly, to generate much needed funds to help us administrate the branch throughout the year. Secondly, to create a platform for suppliers to entertain some of their clients and, thirdly, to create a reasonably low cost platform for suppliers where they can advertise their products and services.

The golf day was a huge success. We had a total of 22 sponsors and 123 players. Eight companies set up water-holes where they could display their products and at the same time supply the players with some food and other refreshments.

The winning team this year was Phoenix Contact and the best water-hole trophy went to NIC.

The water-holes were as popular as ever with NIC scooping first prize
