The last two technology evenings in Secunda were allocated to control valves. Pete Underhill from Alpret presented the technology. Our process colleagues learnt the importance of the correct data on process data sheets for the effective sizing of control valves. We experienced good attendance also from our electrical, mechanical and process colleagues.
The first session was spent on the basics where we looked at the derivation of liquid formula, Cv, typical curves and size considerations, choked flow and the basics of gas and vapour sizing. The second session covered types of control valves, cavitation, SPL and the effects of incorrect selection on process variability.
Our last technology evening for 2008 will be on 9 October and we are planning to present some technology for our analytical colleagues. The venue is at Bergius St, Secunda – 18h00 for 18h30.
