At our Technology Evening on 28 August Tony Farah presented ‘A look at pressure measurement technologies through the ages’. This was an interesting presentation especially for those who arrived in the industry after it had become predominantly electronic.
Our last Technology Evening on 25 September was a presentation by Paulo Da Silva, Honeywell Field Solutions regional sales leader on ‘Corrosion monitoring on-line as a process variable’. We are not going to repeat what it was all about as that has already been covered under the JHB news. Paulo also used the opportunity to mingle with the Cape Town branch as our SAIMC president as he was unable to attend the AGM in May as announced. It was great to meet Paulo and we used this opportunity to say what we liked or did not like about the Cape Town branch after his presentation had been given and we were enjoying some snacks and refreshments.
On 19 September our branch had a site visit to SA Breweries in Newlands. Gives one a fresh perspective on what it takes to create our beers for us.
Our last Technology Evening for 2008 will be on 23 October and will be a presentation by Johan Van Jaarsveldt on ‘Can tank gauging be used in RSA as legal metrology?’ Johan’s presentation will give us the run-down on tank gauging and custody transfer – who are the regulating bodies API, OMIL and ISO and what are their requirements? How are they applied in today’s inventory control systems? What is meant by custody transfer? International standardisation on custody transfer – How does certification work? Installation and application aspects? Uncertainty assessment. Temperature measurement. Summary and Conclusions.
We will keep you posted on where and what we will be doing for our year-end function on 21 November.
Non-SAIMC members note – visitors are welcome at our meetings. Bring a business card or you lose out on the draw.
