Our 2nd Technology Evening was on 3 July. The speaker was Leon Langenhoven, Systems and Solutions business driver for E+H, directly responsible for bus integration (Profibus, Hart and FF) and currently a committee member of the Profibus User group.
Leon gave an update on bus systems – E+H do not have DCS systems to sell and they support Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus and Hart with their product range of field equipment. Where one normally would listen to one proponent extolling the superiority of their system over an opposition system, we got an objective and informative presentation. Each system has its strengths and advantages and Leon shared with us what the future holds in bus technology developments.
We thank E+H for sponsoring Leon’s trip down to Cape Town and thank you Leon for presenting.
During the presentation the wives were pampered. Kerry Warren organised two beauticians to be there and they all moved to the board room with Kerry and got facials and the opportunity to view some skin care products. Thanks Kerry.
The 31 July presentation will be titled ‘Multidimensional measurement using lasers’ by James Portman of Laser Measurements. James has spent almost 20 years designing and manufacturing laser-based instrumentation for industrial applications. His passion for turning extreme ideas and complex technologies into commercially viable and useful products has resulted in many accolades including SABS Design Institute Prototype Awards, Technology 100 and the President's Export Awards. James will take us through an 80 page power point presentation that begins with Einstein, and ends with a stunning laser demonstration.
