SAIMC

Cape Town branch

July 2008 SAIMC

In June we held our first technology evening. The speaker was Alex Willemse Jnr, Alpret Control Specialists, product specialist on Asset Optimisations, and his subject was Wireless Technology, Wireless Security and Wireless Networking. It was not only a presentation but also included a live demonstration of the equipment in action. Those who did not attend really missed out on this one! We had a good turn-out and a participative audience, as Alex discovered.

While the debate goes on as to whether one should opt for Profibus or Field Foundation Bus instead of dedicated cable runs, others are contemplating the quantum leap straight to wireless, and we obviously wanted to hear all about it. Thanks Alex for an excellent presentation and Alpret for making it possible.

The venue was the ESKOM Marketing Centre at Edgemead (off Montague Street). We have secured the venue until next year so all the future meetings will be held there. Kerry Warren of ESKOM arranged the catering. Thanks Kerry.

Well if you read the June copy of SAI&C you will see that the president is very optimistic about the revived Cape Town branch. We would like him to visit us and meet the folk down here and see for himself – Kaapstad is nie Slaapstad nie – we are very much awake down here.

Non SAIMC members note – visitors are welcome at our meetings. Bring a business card or you lose out on the draw.
