Johannesburg says hi to all its members and the branches.
There have been several changes to our Johannesburg Committee and we are pleased to announce Debbie Scott as our new vice-chairman. Bill Steenberg, as vice-president, in the interest of succession, asked to stand down as vice-chairman and allow other committee members the opportunity to chair the committee. This has full committee support. Bill stays on taking care of the newsletters and the other branch events.
Johan Maartens is co-opted to take care of the ECSA related activities for our branch. As a free service, Johan will grade any branch presentation for CPD credits, so that those attending can get the benefit, but, provide Johan with the material in advance so that he can do his bit. A presentation will have a 3 year accreditation and can be used elsewhere as an accredited presentation – those attending the meeting will have to fill in a small feedback questionnaire giving our comments.
Dean Kubheka, the training facilitator at the Fluor Control Systems School of Design is co-opted to take care of our branch training efforts.
Gert Potgieter, who is with the University of Johannesburg, deals with our networking with the universities. The University of Technology joined our committee earlier in the year. Johan Grobler continues to assist Gert in this regard.
What does this effectively mean for us as a branch? That we have a mini version of the Council Sub-Committee for Education, Training, ECSA and other related activities currently being chaired by our past president Vivian MacFadyen.
Bill Steenberg apologises for not mentioning and thanking Dresser Flow Solutions, Alpret Control Specialists and Rand Water for the sponsorship of the 14 March 2008 site visit to Rand Water Purification Works at Zuikerbosch in the subsequent April SA&IC issue. Acknowledgement had been given in the April SAIMC JHG branch newsletter. Thank you everyone for making the day possible. Much appreciated.
