Notice of SAIMC Durban branch monthly meeting

April 2008 SAIMC

Wednesday 7 May 2008

Venue: University of KwaZulu-Natal, Howard College Campus

Room G-01, Faculty of Electrical Engineering

17:30 for 18:00

This month’s meeting will see the topic: 'Can tank gauging be used in RSA as legal metrology?'

Presented by Johan van Jaarsveldt

This is a particularly relevant topic given the present climate of rapidly rising oil prices. It provides an opportunity to receive an update on the current status of tank gauging, and to do some valuable networking with other specialists in the field of precision measurements.

Johan van Jaarsveldt is petrochemical industry manager for Endress + Hauser. He is responsible for inventory control systems and tank farm management.

Johan has 30 years of working experience in petrochemical plants. He has been directly involved in tank farm project implementation here in RSA as well as in Angola and in Nigeria.

Some of the questions Johan will be addressing and aspects that will be covered are as follows:

Tank gauging and custody transfer:

* Who are the regulating bodies API, OMIL and ISO and what are their requirements?

* How are they applied in today’s inventory control systems?

* What is meant by custody transfer?

* International standardisation on custody transfer - how does certification work?

* Installation and application aspects?

* Uncertainty assessment.

* Temperature measurement.

* Summary and conclusion.

The committee encourages members and interested parties to attend this meeting. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
