At the 7th SAIMC branch and technology meeting held on 15 August, guest speaker Ivor Evans gave an interesting presentation on the topical subject of the reservation of engineering work and registration. Ivor holds a BSc from Wits University and graduated when many SAIMC members were less than a twinkle in anyone's eyes. Ivor was chairman of the Identification of Engineering Works Committee of the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and a former president of SAACE. He is now part of a campaign aimed at improving awareness of the impending legislation.

Ivor's presentation sparked some interesting questions regarding who must be registered, whether all practitioners required registration and in what timeframe this legislation is likely to become enacted.
