The second branch meeting of the year was held on 14 March. After covering branch matters, Cornu Perold, past president, gave a presentation on his MBA paper 'A Dissertation of the SAIMC'. Cornu did a sterling job in presenting an overview of his 400-page work which concludes that all similar institutes are experiencing the same issues around change and are also being subjected to new dynamics. Cornu will be making this research available on our web page.
We welcomed visitors Kevin McElroy from Durban, Martin Smit from Secunda and Leo Chikasa and Jones Kalela, both from the Zambia branch. Also welcomed were members of the press, Roelien Venter (What's New in Processing and Southern African Petrochemicals), Annette Thompson and Beverly Bullen (EE Publishers, Engineer IT), and Darren Smith (Technews).
Golf day
Golfers should remember to diarise the SAIMC Johannesburg golf day on 29 June 2007. Tee-off is 10h00 at Kempton Park Country Club. Get your forms to Debbie Scott no later than 21 June 2007. Entries to this popular event are on a first come, first served basis!
Branch of the year award
The Johannesburg branch achieved 210 points, and Nico's Education drive raised a further 64 points through 'Guest Lecture' credits. These lectures were given at various times during the year by our JHB SAIMC at the Vaal University of Technology (Vanderbijlpark) and at the Tshwane University of Technology (Pretoria). Points accrual relates mostly to information sharing and good governance by the branch committee. Attending meetings is only one way of participating in our branch activities - we will need your input this year in other ways too.
What about 2006, you may ask? Well, the Zambia branch walked away with the award for the second year running! Congratulations Leo and Jones - very well done.
Membership fees
Membership fees for 2007 are R390. Please contact Claire at the SAIMC Secretariat ([email protected]). Come on guys, this is less than an average meal out with friends. Pay your 2007 dues!
