Tech4Tomorrow Winter School inspires future innovators in Hammarsdale

Counter Space Learning hosted its Tech4Tomorrow winter school at uBhedu Primary School, Hammarsdale on 29 June 2026, and on 1 to 2 July 2026, bringing robotics, programming and artificial intelligence to learners who might not otherwise have access to these technologies. The three-day programme welcomed an average of 15 learners per day and was run in partnership with uBhedu Primary School.
On the first day, learners explored robotics using LEGO Spike Prime. They built their first robots, learned how motors and sensors work together, and discovered that coding involves giving a robot its own set of instructions. By day two, confidence had grown alongside creativity with learners tackling more advanced robotic models and coding challenges that developed their logical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Day three introduced the ethical use of artificial intelligence and explored how AI can be applied responsibly to solve everyday problems. Learners also engaged with hands-on coding activities using the Rangers Classroom Coding Kit from Tangible Africa which transforms programming into an interactive activity. The programme concluded with a robotics challenge in which teams designed and programmed robots capable of solving real-world problems, demonstrating technical skills alongside communication and teamwork. The winning team was awarded a R750 prize sponsored by RS.
Counter Space Learning thanks SMART LAB for sponsoring the programme, RS for sponsoring the competition prizes and Tangible Africa, Horne Technologies and Stelltron for supporting the coding activities. Tech4Tomorrow continues to demonstrate that hands-on STEM education can unlock curiosity and build confidence in communities where access to advanced technology is limited.
