The VUI2000 series from Beckhoff is being joined by four new vision units. The Vision Unit Illuminated (VUI) is a compact unit comprising the camera, illumination and focusable optics, complete with liquid lens technology. It significantly reduces the installation and commissioning effort. All functional components of the VUI are encapsulated in a visually appealing anodised aluminium housing in protection class IP65/67. In addition to the existing models, the portfolio is now being expanded to include four devices featuring colour or monochrome image sensors with resolutions of 2,3 or 3,1 MP in a 16 mm focal length.
The liquid lens utilised in all VUIs operates without any moving mechanical parts. This unit is factory-calibrated to allow for highly accurate focus adjustments based on real dimensions. The optimal combination of lens position, aperture, and depth of field ensures that the focus can be reliably adjusted for distances ranging from 10 to 2,000 mm, extending even beyond the ideal range for illumination. Additionally, temperature-related changes in refractive power are accurately compensated for through continuous temperature measurement and a corresponding mathematical model.
