We thank Yokogawa South Africa in conjunction with ICS (SA) for sponsoring and conducting our August Technical presentation on 27 August 2005 at Sherbourne Guest Lodge in Kitwe.
Fifty-two members and guests were in attendance. Yokogawa and ICS also provided lunch, snacks and drinks. The theory and application of a wide range of instruments including PH, conductivity, oxygen analysis, flow, controllers and actuators were discussed by Tony Farah and Rob Oliaro of Yokogawa RSA. The technical presentations took members and guests back to the basics while at the same time highlighted the advancements taking place in the field of process instrumentation.
Titus Tito, SAIMC - Zambia branch secretary and a sectional instrumentation and control engineer with Konkola Copper Mines PLC gave a technical presentation on the subject 'Progress by control - our challenge'. The paper looked at three main challenges that are facing Zambia branch SAIMC members:
1) To ensure our processing industries make profit.
2) To acquire a wide knowledge in related fields.
3) Ensure we are in phase with the changing instrumentation technological developments.
The way forward in light of these challenges was also discussed.
