SAIMC
I am sure many of our readers remember the TV series called 'The A Team'. It was an action drama where numerous desperate situations were solved in a spectacular manner. At the end of all the excitement, and when the smoke had blown away, the team leader would conclude the show with the words: "I love it when a plan comes together".
Vivian MacFadyen, Johannesburg Branch chairman
Well, I now voice the same sentiment
We, the SAIMC exhibited at the recent Process exhibition with great success. The successful stand development, management and staffing was achieved by close cooperation between The SAIMC Council and the Johannesburg and Secunda Branches. The administrative divisions of the Institute are well known for their close working relationships, and this event was another example where it was a winning team endeavour.
A lot of interest was shown in the SAIMC with a total of 58 applications for new membership. This is indicative of the growing resurgence of pride in our sector of the engineering industry. For too long our colleagues have plodded along in simian fashion just doing a job to earn a living. This revived pride in what we are doing, and quest for knowledge is encouraging.
We also had lively support from our Patron members who proudly displayed their membership certificates on their stands. We highly value the Patrons who support us in numerous ways and especially at branch level by attending meetings and other events.
We thank all those who either participated in making the exhibition a success, both in representation of the SAIMC, and taking time to visit our stand.
The new website is now up and running; and we encourage all members to send in their ID numbers to [email protected] so that we can provide you access to the members only section. This will provide you with added advantages for your membership.

“Never have so many owed so much to so few.” This phrase is a famous quote by Winston Churchill, referring to the efforts of the Royal Air Force pilots who fought in the Battle of Britain during World War II. It highlights the immense gratitude owed to the relatively small number of pilots who played a crucial role in defending the United Kingdom from the German Luftwaffe.
