The annual general meeting of the SAIMC Johannesburg branch was held on 7 February 2024 at the Northcliff Country Club. The number of attending members was enough to reach a quorum.
At the AGM a new branch management team was nominated and approved. The members are: Ann de Beer: Branch manager, Cheryl Hird: Treasurer, Dean Floyd, Diogo Fidalgo, Kevin Preston, Sagadevan Kanniappen.
The new branch manager, Ann de Beer and her team would like to take this opportunity to thank Jenine Jansen Van Vuuren for her time as branch manager. Her effort and assistance over the past years are greatly appreciated.
The calendar for 2024 is as follows:
Technology events: These will be held on the following dates: 13 March at Phoenix Contact; 10 April; 8 May; 12 June; 10 July; 14 August; 11 September; 9 October.
Golf day: Date to be confirmed.
Ladies event: Date to be confirmed.
Training days and events: Dates to be confirmed.
Year end function: 13 November.
Johan Maartens of EXCO spoke briefly about the changes happening in ECSA from January 2025. A session with Johan will be incorporated into one of the technology evenings to get a clearer picture of the changes and implications for all registered engineers.
The team is looking forward to an exciting new year and would welcome input from members on the topics they would like addressed in 2024. Please feel free to reach out to the team with suggestions.
The technology event for 13 March 2024 will be hosted by Phoenix Contact. The topic under discussion is ‘Industrial Wireless’. The presentation has already been awarded CPD points. We look forward to seeing you all there.

SAIMC Zambia recently facilitated an industrial visit to the Zamefa Cable Manufacturing Company in Luanshya for twenty automation students from Sinozam. The visit gave students valuable exposure to the advanced technology used in copper and aluminium cable production.
