Firstly, I would like to wish Vivian Macfadyan, the Johannesburg Branch chairman, a quick recovery after the stroke he has had. Vivian is recovering at home.

A lot has happened in the past months that requires reporting on. The most important was this year's Council AGM. We were all very pleased with the inauguration of the president, Cornu, who is serving a second year in the position. Cornu contributed a lot to the new website, which you all should have visited by now. Thanks Cornu.

Congratulations to the Secunda Branch, who got Branch of the year for 2005. Well done!

We kicked off in February with a site visit to see LAS's new Prover in action at the Shell depot in Alrode. A further site visit to be looking forward to during the year is another BMW factory tour that we are planning. This tour was very popular in the past, but what will make it more interesting, is that this will be to see the manufacturing of the new BMW 3 series. As they say, watch this space for further details.

Winter golf day

The date for the SAIMC Winter Golf Day has been fixed for 8 July 2005. This will again be held on the Kempton Park Golf Course. Book your four ball and reserve a waterhole where you can meet all the players, display your company banners and join in with the fun and prize giving. All players will receive a prize, no matter how well or how badly they play. All players and everyone manning waterholes are welcome to join us for supper at the end of the day. Our April meeting was sponsored by Liquid Automation Systems (LAS). The presentation was given by Charl Wentzel, Head of LAS's R&D division about Product Security in Road Tankers. Charl really covered the safe secure transporting of fuels from the loading depot to the garage forecourts. Tanker product security ensures the safe secure loading of various petroleum products into the correct tanker compartments. This prevents product contamination. This was a very interesting and not so technical topic that led to many questions being asked, showing the interest of the audience.

This month's topic will cover national measurement system, accreditation and traceability by the CSIR on 11 May 2005. Please note that our meetings are held every second Wednesday evening of the month at the Rivonia Club. See you there.
