Johannesburg Branch

February 2005 SAIMC

The notice of our AGM was timeously published, and it took place at the Rivonia Country Club on the 12th January. Based on our previous experience this meeting was well attended.

We thank the members that could not attend, but who went to the trouble of completing the Proxy and Nomination forms, these were all received in good time for the selection of our new committee. In addition to all of the 2004 committee members that were re-nominated, re-elected and who accepted their new positions we were delighted in welcoming three new committee members to the team. The 2005 committee now consists of 10 members. The extra members will reduce the workload considerably.

The 2005 members are:

The 2004 Chairman's report to the branch consisted of a slide presentation that highlighted our achievements, important occasions and the humorous episodes.

The president of the SAIMC Council, Cornu Perold, was present and awarded Eric Carter and Vivian MacFadyen certificates upgrading them to 'Fellow'. This prestigious award was for their continued dedication and commitment to the SAIMC throughout their working lives.

One of our problems last year was the organisation of the two golf days without any highly experienced players on the committee. We now have two, so those golfers out there can expect to enjoy the two events planned for next year.

We are also going to continue supporting education in our field of engineering with the assistance of our loyal partners, and will also be looking into ways of expanding this activity.

The following students were receivers of Schneider Electric/SAIMC awards during the 2004 academic year:

Johan Uys: Vaal Triangle Technikon

Andries Malherbe: Pretoria Technikon

James Hurn: Pretoria Technikon

Dirk Beier: Witwatersrand University

Gideon Ferreira: Rand Afrikaans University

M.W.G. Strempel: University of Pretoria

P. Mokhabela: Technikon Northern Gauteng

We thank Schneider Electric for its support during the last eight years.

I have now been the chairman of the Jhb branch for two years and would like to thank the 2003 and 2004 committee members for their loyal support. It has been a great two years. On behalf of all the members, I congratulate our 2005 chairman, Vivian MacFadyen, on accepting this position and on behalf of the committee; we would like to assure him of our support and best wishes for the coming year.
