Accomplish something this year

January 2005 News

Wow, it is 2005 ... I am sure that there are many out there like myself: - We kind of grew so used to writing nineteen hundred and something for the year that it was almost surreal to imagine ever writing a date with 20 in front. Sure, we knew that if we added our life expectancy to the current year, we would in all likelihood live well into the 2000s - but somehow life beyond 2000 seemed like something you read about in science fiction.

Even those of us who have successful careers, where we are accustomed to scheduling our work activities, often fail to implement any disciplined use of time in our private lives.

Many of us, (myself included) find that with the dawning of a fresh year, we have a list of great things that we intended accomplishing last year. Each year seems to gather more pressures and concerns, and we almost become afraid to commit ourselves to any personal goals - even privately. <Sigh>.

For those fellow desperados, how about trying what I have decided to do this year:

Accomplishing something (apart from your work) this year

Of all those really cool things that you would like to accomplish, pick ONE. Discuss the project with your family. Make time: Schedule time to spend on the project, and time to spend on family commitments. If you can spend two hours a week on the project you will accomplish infinitely more than continuing with an undisciplined strategy. Wishing you had the time to do what you want will not make it happen. Make appointments for your project - and for your family obligations. Stick to both and make it happen!

Sister publication doing very well

As all our readers should already know, last year saw Technews take on Motion Control SA as an adopted sister publication to SA Instrumentation and Control. The magazine addresses all hardware and services associated with the production of controlled mechanical power. Great effort has been made to ensure that the magazine reaches all those who are likely to benefit from the up-to-date information it offers. If you have somehow been overlooked, keep calm, get over to your PC and write an e-mail with the subject: 'Free MC Subscription' and send it to [email protected].

Get the Motion Control SA Buyers' Guide

Those who look forward to getting their hands on the SA I&C Buyers' Guide will be happy to hear that we have already begun work on a business directory for all Motion Control SA related businesses - this should be complete and posted to all Motion Control SA subscribers before mid-2005. If you work with hydraulics, pneumatics, motor drives, servos, etc - make sure that you subscribe to Motion Control SA to qualify for the free MCSA Buyers' Guide directory.
