August 2004
SAIMC
Our June meeting was graced with the presence of Cornu Perold, our SAIMC president, and a wide-awake team from Mintek and ABB.
Agit Singh who is the head of Flotation Control at Mintek, delivered an interesting and informative presentation on milling and flotation control, explaining the intricacies of the technology and the operating results and benefits achieved at various sites around the world.
Paul Brereton-Stiles, who heads up the Furnace Control section at Mintek, then followed with another very informative lecture on furnace control and the ongoing research into arc electrodes with the use of state-of-the-art software. Also on hand, was André Louw, a product specialist in control systems at ABB and another well-known personality in the Rustenburg area, Willy Suzor, who is a sales engineer for the Minerals and Mining Process Industries division of ABB.
Much discussion ensued during the lectures, and there were many questions from the floor, which the very able presenters from Mintek easily addressed. The evening rounded off with delicious snacks and refreshments supplied by the RPM-R Recreation Club, and even a comment by Cornu on the fact that the subjects selected for the lectures were truly interesting and very apt.
