August 2004 SAIMC

Meetings

The July meeting was sponsored by Adroit (Proudly South African) despite the weather being near freezing. The hot topic was Microsoft.Net presented by Dave Wibberley. This attracted a large audience from all sectors of our instrumentation and control world. Even the IT youngsters were present; I hope they learned something! It was especially exciting to meet a number of new faces at this meeting. Some participants came from as far as Durban. Dave became so excited during his presentation that if it was not for the 1 hour limit that we strictly enforce he would still be talking.

The subject Microsoft.Net left us all thinking of what the future instruments are going to be, all Web servers?

The August meeting will be sponsored by (IST) Integrators of System Technology, a Pretoria-based company, which for many years served in the development of military equipment and is now well known in our industrial world as system integrators. We look forward to this meeting to be held on Wednesday 11 August. See you there.

Keep a look-out for your e-mails for further news. If you are not yet on our mailing list, send us your e-mail address. Our meetings are held at the Rivonia Country Club every second Wednesday of the month at 18h00. The presentation starts at 18h30 sharp and is limited to 1 hour and ends at 19h30. Drinks and eats are sponsored, so come and join in the discussion and gain some valuable knowledge.

Site visits

With the help of our committee members, we will soon be publishing our planned visits to:

NATREF

Rand Water Board

SABC

SAA

SAIMC Golf Day

We, as the committee, have not fully recovered from the June Golf Day and already members are nagging us for the date of the next Golf Day. At our committee meeting held on Wednesday 13 July it was decided to host yet another Golf Day later this year. However, we will need to look at the availability of a course and hope to be able to publish our intended date and course by next month's issue. By the way, we as the JHB branch made around seven thousand rand, which will be put to good use in furthering education in our industry.

Once again, I thank you, all of our regular attendees, and my committee for their enthusiastic commitment.

Chairman, Johan van Jaarsveldt, [email protected]
