Johannesburg Branch (Branch of the Year)

July 2004 SAIMC

Meetings

Our June meeting attracted full attendance where visitors and members enjoyed full hour presentation, which led to actual applications, and problems were discussed. We all had a great time, leaving this meeting all the wiser. The evening was sponsored by Siemens. The topic was Profi-net and the speaker none other than Hertzog Makete, an expert in his field.

The July meeting will be sponsored by Adroit and the topic is Micro-Net. This will be presented by Dave Wibberley. Keep a look out for your e-mails or send us one so that we can add you to our monthly invitation list.

Our meetings are normally held at the Rivonia Country Club every second Wednesday of the month at 18:00. The presentation starts at 18:30 sharp and is limited to 1 hour and ends at 19:30. Drinks and eats are sponsored, so come and join in the discussion and gain some valuable knowledge.

Site visits: WIKA factory tour

This factory tour took place on 19 May and was again a great success. It was organised by Johan Grobler, who on the day of the visit had some commitments to meet in China and could not attend himself. Jan van Wyk stepped in and took over as host on the day.

We were met and welcomed by all the WIKA management. Rainer Holz, MD, introduced us to his facility. This factory tour was most interesting and informative. Do you know how they weld a dual RTD bulb into a 6 mm mineral insulated cable? The tour was followed by a buffet dinner where the biggest and thickest juiciest steaks were served. We would like to thank WIKA for their hospitality, and both Johan Grobler and Jan van Wyk for their efforts.

Planned site visits are being finalised and include: NATREF, Rand Water Board and the SABC.

SAIMC Golf Day 11 June

Thirty-four Four Balls and 11 sponsored water holes, prizes worth R24 000,00 and only 8 hours of daylight to get through an 18 hole course, this was the greatest of challenges. This was a great challenge to the organisers and players who also had to stop at the watering holes to sample the offerings. Most completed and enjoyed their day!

This golf day was one of the largest events ever organised by the Johannesburg Branch committee. Everything ran like clockwork, registration, tee-off, supper and prize giving - where every player received a prize. We thank all our sponsors and especially the people that took the time to man the water holes.

Once again, thank you to all of our regular attendees and my committee for their enthusiastic commitment.
