Secunda Branch

February 2004 SAIMC

This year the Secunda Branch kicked off with a bang.

Firing on all 12 cylinders we held our AGM on 15 January 2004 at the offices of Wika in Trichardt. Visitors from the Johannesburg Branch were welcomed and the re-elected chairman, Johan van Jaarsveldt, was congratulated.

Piet Groenewaldt gave his review on the branch finances and these financial accounts were accepted by all present. The chairman thanked Piet for his outstanding efforts in setting up an easy effective program to manage our finances. The chairman then presented his year-end report, which was also accepted by everyone present. The year treated us well and the chairman also thanked his committee for their support.

The election of a new committee for the branch held no surprises. With only a few small changes the committee of 2003 were re-elected. The members were elected into portfolios as per the table.

Other members that were elected are Tony Vis, Brian Edwards, Andre Venter, Dennis Hoffman, Koenie van Koert, Peter Zietsman and Piet van Vuuren.

The committee will hold their first meeting on Tuesday 20 January, to allocate members in portfolios and to fix the program for the year. The list will be populated soon and will be available on the website.

At the meeting the chairman made a presentation with the aim to get a mandate from the members of a proposal that he wants to present to council. The proposal will provide a new direction to the institute and thus provide better benefits to industry as well as our members. This proposal was accepted by all present. If council accept this proposal this institute will find its rightful place amongst all institutes. The meeting was closed and everybody enjoyed a hot dog, something to drink and a nice chat with our friends.

The Secunda Branch

We have the vision, skills and commitment to be the power of the future.
