Our September meeting, sponsored by Spescom, was yet again very well prepared and extremely interesting, although attendance was lower than normal. Spescom had two presenters who shared their knowledge on temperature measurement using fibre optical cable. This technology is used to determine hot spots on any surface area now available for industrial applications, kiln or any vessel. As usual, the snacks and refreshments were excellent and plentiful.
October's meeting
This was held at the usual venue, Rivonia Country Club, on 8 October. The sponsor and subject were not known at time of going to print.
Please join us at these meetings and share your ideas, we encourage and appreciate constructive discussion. There is no charge for attendance, and both members and visitors are welcome. Please attend!
Remember: we always meet on the second Wednesday of the month.
The November meeting is going to be a very special evening. Sponsored by the Jhb Branch, invitations will only be sent out to members who have attended at least one meeting this year. Those who had attended any meetings this year will be invited to join us at our beer tasting evening to be held at the very prestigious Eddie Watson Hall of the Jhb Fort. The Jhb Fort has a great deal of history and now shares the site of the new constitutional court.
Rustenburg resurrection
Our president Johan Steyn and I recently attended a meeting with some very enthusiastic Rustenburg members who are very eager to get the Rustenburg branch up and running again. (Details are expected soon...)
Biannual golf day
Due to the many requests and the limited space at our June golf day where we entered 36 four balls, we as a committee have decided to hold a second golf day date on 4 November at Leeukop Golf Course. This event will have limited entries to a max of 30 four balls. We are offering various advertisement opportunities. It may already be too late - contact Warren to enter your four balls now!
Johannesburg Branch site visit
Rand Water Board Zukerbosh Pump Station: here was an opportunity of a lifetime. On 15 October visitors parked their vehicles in secure parking, boarded a 60-seater bus at RWB headquarters and were driven to Vereeniging in luxury. There they were taken on a technical tour of the facility - with emphasis on the instrumentation and control of this large, world-class water purification plant. Siemens supplied the liquid refreshments on board the bus - and the cost to participate was a R30 donation.
If you do not wish to miss opportunities such as these, contact Johan Grobler and get onto his e-mail list - cell: 082 853 0153, [email protected]
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our monthly meeting sponsors, all of you who attend and my committee for their enthusiasm and commitment.
Chairman, Johan van Jaarsveldt
