SAIMC Secunda

August 2003 SAIMC

Things are happening in the Secunda area and all our members are very excited about the new enthusiasm with which everything is tackled. Dennis has progressed very well with the arrangement of the site visit to BMW. By the looks of it there will again be some latecomers that will have to wait for the next one, maybe later in the year or early next year.

Andre and Dennis also organised a seminar held at Moeller Electric. This was an event not to be missed. I believe the first 12 paid up members to respond had first choice to attend.

Penmac also is around the corner. In fact next week and the Secunda Branch will be represented also at this great event at the Sasol Club.

Our sponsor day will take place on 21 August and the winner of our golf day will then receive the winner trophy. At this stage I will refrain from letting the cat out of the bag. Guess who won this year?

One of our main objectives for this year is to get involved in the educational bodies in our area. Already we have made contact with Evander Technical College and also intend to contact the Vaal Triangle satellite Campus in Secunda. The Secunda Branch committee intend to act as the host for the Evander college delegate at the Penmac Road show - and by doing so obtain their buy in with our intention to advance the instrument trade at their institution.

Elen Enclosures sponsored an evening for our members. Jary Kapral did a presentation on corrosion protection on cubicles and junction boxes. He also explained how IP ratings work and what aspects to take into consideration when selecting panels and junction boxes. We always thought it is just another housing for equipment and it must last for the next 20 years. Who could imagine what technology and development goes into the manufacturing of these overlooked items on the plant. From now on we will view them in a totally different way. Thanks again to Jary who presented in a very professional way, this one can be recommended to the other branches as well.

The Secunda Branch is on track and our plans continue to fall in place. I thank the committee for their dedicated support and hard work as always. With time and by making mistakes we learn and through this we grow, that is why we are the best we have ever been.

Golf shirts in all sizes, white and navy blue and golf caps in blue with the SAIMC logo are available.
