April 2003 SAIMC

This year is moving so quickly. January our first meeting, the AGM, saw the selection of the new committee. 2002 committee members remained unchanged with the exception of Johan Stein who has left us to take up a new position in Council. We thank Cornu Perold for fulfilling the roll as Chairman Jhb branch, a task that he did with enthusiasm and extreme competence. Paulo da Silva has taken up the difficult and ungrateful task of treasurer. Good luck boet!

Both Johan Grobler and Nico Marneweck will continue with our education portfolio. We thank Group Schneider for its generous contributions and support that it has given us year after year. This support is enabling us to help and encourage our Technikon students, thus strengthening the instrumentation and process control industry for the future.

Our resident golfer Warren Mitchell is now Vice Chairman and Vivian Mac Fadyen Secretary. We also welcome three new members: Justin Cripps, Malcolm Finlay and Jan van Wyk.

Instrotech sponsored the AGM where Dave Howcraft added a lot of interest by explaining the difficulties of locally designing, manufacturing and marketing of instrumentation.

Our February meeting was sponsored by Adroit, and Dave Wibberley (who had just returned from an overseas visit) presented the latest scada developments. March's meeting was Siemens' turn to explain non-contact level using the latest radar technology.

We are really looking forward to our April meeting. Council have approached us and asked if they could hold their AGM as one of our monthly meetings. It will be ended off with a short presentation from the newly elected SAIMC President, Johan Stein. May will be the first of our two annual Golf Days - great things are being planned, and this will again be an event not to be missed.
