Secunda Branch

March 2003 SAIMC

A slow start to the New Year... our AGM came late but not without reason. We accommodated the industries in our area and gave our members the opportunity to devote their efforts to the company that put bread on their table. This was planned so as to allow for the overhaul at Sasol. At this year's AGM the old committee was re-elected, and they commit themselves to the branch activities for this year as a team. One of our founder committee members, Piet Ferreira resigned after four years. We all thank him for his dedication and hard work during this time and wish him good luck for the future. See you soon back on the committee.

The committee held their first meeting on Thursday 19 January, and constructed the committee as per the table below.

This list will be populated soon and will be available on the website.

This year will be very busy for this branch and hot dates are:

Topics for branch meetings will be communicated soon. Presenters that seek the opportunity to educate our members on technology, new as well as basics, please contact Tony. You must hurry or wait till next year. Committee meetings will be held if needed and sub committee meetings will be planned when required.

Dennis promised a minimum of three site visits and the venues will be communicated to everyone as soon as they are finalised.

After a year of rest the first meeting allowed us to reflect back on things we do not do so well. Several issues were discussed and solutions were recommended. We will follow these guidelines in the New Year. Thanks to those that came with criticism. Now it is time to review and to give us feedback. We will show that we can live up to your expectations.

The whole branch promised that this would be the year of reckoning. We will contest for the branch of the year award like never before. If we do not win it we may consider stealing it.

The Witbank sub-branch wants another chance. They are planning their AGM soon and we make a big request that our members in their area attend this event. We need passionate people that are willing to give back something to the industry of that what they got from it to be members of their committee.

Golf shirts are available in all sizes in white and navy blue and golf caps in blue with the SAIMC logo are available. ADVERTISE YOUR INSTITUTE AND SHOW THAT YOU ARE PROUD TO BE A MEMBER (Please fax your order to Piet van Rensburg at 017 615 2615)

THE SECUNDA BRANCH - we are back and mean business.
