Johannesburg Branch

October 2002 SAIMC

The last quarter of 2002 is upon us already, and with the number of activities we have scheduled for the remainder of the year, it promises to be a very short two months to the festive season. Still to come will be our regular meetings of course, a visit to the Telkom NNOC in Pretoria on 14 October, the Aquafresh factory in Boksburg during November and the long awaited visit to the BMW factory in Rosslyn in early December.

Our Education Sub-Committee is also going on a blitz tour of the techikons and colleges in Gauteng and the Vaal Triangle to do presentations and promote the SAIMC to the students there.

Then of course we have our second Golf Day on 29 November at the Leeukop Golf Course near Kyalami; bookings are now open and your contact for booking your 4-ball is Warren Mitchell at 083 406 4477 or [email protected]. Book early, as space is limited.

Last but not least, we have the Committee year-end function on 22 November at the Greensleeves Restaurant in Krugersdorp. It will be a full-on costumed affair and it promises to be an absolute blast.

Our September Branch meeting was hosted by Adroit and our members learned more about Fuzzy Logic and its uses and applications in industry as well as everyday appliances like fridges and washing machines - fascinating stuff! October will be hosted by Citect, and the topic will be scada configuration standards - be sure not to miss it. As usual, our November meeting will be something very special. Some of you might know that every year in November, the swimsuit edition of SA Sports Illustrated magazine appears on the shelves. Having said that, our meeting will be hosted by the publishers of this mag, and they will be bringing along some swimsuits...with people in them.

Miss it and cry.

Make a note now: 13 November, SAIMC JHB meeting hosted by SA Sports Illustrated.

The Johannesburg Branch wishes to congratulate the Vaal Sub Branch with their bold statements during the past Council meeting. They are making a clear statement as to their intentions for their branch, and we want to issue a challenge to their Committee: Make a written submission to the parent branch (JHB) before the end of September, with the number of registered members and the number of years this Sub Branch has existed - and we will make a formal application to Council at the next meeting to award Full Branch Status to the Vaal sub.

Parting shot: 9/11 has come and gone, life carries on.
